Original title

La Malquerida

A splendid mise-en-scène, half-dance half-theatre, from the dancer and choreographer Luis Dávila, ‘Luisillo’, of the work by playwright Jacinto Benavente.

Luisillo’s Spanish Dance Company premièred this version of the play of the same name by the Nobel Prize Winner Jacinto Benavente. For this, ‘Luisillo’ consciously avoided the flamenco world to set this ballet (wardrobe, dances) strictly in deep Castile which the play recreates.
The two main dancers were Emilio Fernández and Lola Zambrano and the script was written by Alfredo Mañas. The background music is by Luis Pontini and popular Castilian melodies. One of the peculiarities of this work is the dancers having to recite or perform different passages.
