Literature, Narrative

Original title

La lluvia amarilla

Written by Julio Llamazares, this novel consists of the monologue of the last inhabitant of a now deserted village in the Aragonese Pyrenees.

The landscape is the book's main character. It is written in the form of a monologue spoken by Ainielle, the last inhabitant of a deserted village in the Aragonese Pyrenees. On the threshold of death, Ainielle evokes his lost companions and faces up to the phantoms of his mind and his extreme solitude. The title of the book (literally "Yellow Rain") refers to colour of the rain as it lies on the autumn leaves; an image that is compared with the flow of time.

The writer employs a concise and original vocabulary through Ainielle with a view to creating a poetic atmosphere.
