Original title

Espadas como labios

In "Swords as Lips", a Surrealist collection of poems full of bitterness and irony, the poet and Nobel Prize winner Vicente Aleixandre subtly outlines his rejection of society.

This release of this book was one of the riskiest experiments in avant-garde Spanish poetry. In the 41 poems, the Nobel Prize winner deals with eternal themes in poetry: life, love and death, treated from a very human point of view.

The Surrealist influence can be seen in its free verse and irrationalist expression, which even affects the way of writing - there are no punctuation marks.

The unmistakable features of Aleixandre's style are also present in this collection of poems: reiterations, presence of poetic and visionary images, the use of the conjunction "or" as an identifier, and the poet's incessant difficulty in finding the exact word to express his experience, his feelings.
