The dancer and choreographer Víctor Ullate gives his view of Andalusia and flamenco in this production premiered in the city of Zaragoza in 2005.
A number of exceptional figures joined Ullate in this production. In Flamenco singing, Enrique Morente and his daughter, Estrella. In stage management, the famous theatre director Mario Gas. And in setting, the stages and images created in his day by the poet Federico García Lorca.
These vectors converge in a staging where the Mediterranean light and colour predominate, with the passion of a land and a music, a “south” that is not a physical place, but rather a feeling.
The plot is wholly Andalusian, in the style of Lorca: love, passion and the search for one’s own identity through personal freedom. A love triangle that generates passion, but also the hatred that will ultimately lead to tragedy.
