Luis Mateo Díez merges into one his trilogy formed by 'El espíritu del páramo', 'La ruina del cielo' and 'El oscurecer (un encuentro)', set in the mythical region of Celama.
To publish this combined edition of the trilogy of 'El espíritu del páramo' (1996), 'La ruina del cielo' (2000) and 'El oscurecer (un encuentro)' (2002), the author had only to modify a few elements to give his narrative a greater consistency and uniformity. This is one of the most ambitious and complex reconstructions of an imaginary region to be found in contemporary literature.
Symbolic and metaphorical aspects take on particular importance in this saga, and the author himself has defined 'El reino de Celama' as a complex metaphor on the disappearance of rural cultures and an attempt to penetrate the deepest and most mysterious recesses of the human heart.
'La ruina del cielo' won the National Narrative Award and the Critics' Award, both presented in 2000.
