Original title

El jinete polaco

Complex novel by Antonio Muñoz Molina which attempts to recreate the memory of the Andalusian village of Mágina through a series of interconnected stories.

The novel 'El jinete polaco' ('The Polish Horseman') by Antonio Muñoz Molina was published in 1991, and is the winner of the Planeta Prize (1991) and the National Narrative Award (1992).
It is a highly complex novel in which the author weaves together a mesh of interrelated plotlines based on biographical circumstances. The main character, a simultaneous interpreter, sets out to evoke, over four generations, the life in the Andalusian village of Mágina between 1870 and 1990.
The frequent changes of time and space, the evocation of the character's own memories and those of others, together with the scarcity of dialogue, enhance the complexity and richness of the work.
