Novel written by Antonio Muñoz Molina mixing jazz and intrigue as a tribute to American “black films”.

Narrative work by Antonio Muñoz Molina, published in 1987 and later awarded the Critic’s Award (1987) and the National Narrative Literature Award (1988).

His work is a sort of hats off to African-American films, as well as to the rundown venues where jazz was invented. Under the wings of this musical style, the novel narrates the story of the love between Lucrecia and Santiago Biralbo, a reputable pianist, who will has them moving between Lisbon, Madrid and San Sebastian. Meanwhile, a series of robberies and pursuits, comprising a criminal intrigue invading the life of the heroes.

With this work the author consolidated his fame, a success that generated a screen adaptation featuring the collaboration of the great jazz trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie.
