El álbum familiar

José Luis Alonso de Santos reconstructs his impressions of post-war Spain in this work, linking experiences as a photographic album.

A play by playwright José Luis Alonso de Santos which was premièred at the María Guerrero Theatre in Madrid on 26th October 1982.

The author takes up the legacy of The Basement Window by Antonio Buero Vallejo to produce a personal intimate piece filled with positive attitude and a strong symbolic character. Alonso recurs to memory and past recollections to reconstruct post-war Spanish society which the author converts into a protagonist of the story.

The piece adopts the form of an album whose broken structure shows photographs or experiences from the past. Despite the exceptional nature of the work in the playwright’s production, there are still some features inherent to the author such as his unique way to construct dialogues and bittersweet humour.
