Original title

D. Q. (Don Quijote en Barcelona)

Yet another musical production based on the novel by Miguel Cervantes, composed by José Luis Turina. He received the SGAE Award for the best lyric score premiered in Spain that year.

In 1998 La Fura dels Baus theatre group asked José Luis Turina to compose an opera based on "Don Quixote", with their own stage production. It was premiered in the Gran Teatro Liceo theatre in Barcelona in 2000, to a libretto by the Andalusian poet Justo Navarro and with a set design by architects Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue.

Turina composed an absolutely modern and futuristic opera in three acts that brings to life lesser-known passages from the immortal novel by Miguel de Cervantes. It takes place in the year 3000, in a world that has forgotten what a book is. He also included in the composition the free participation of anonymous composers made through social networks on internet.
