Flamenco dance

Original title

Diquela de la Alhambra

The ultimate manifestation of flamenco by the dancer and choreographer Rafael Aguilar and his company, the Ballet Teatro Español de Rafael Aguilar.

The show 'Diquela de la Alhambra' had its world premiere at the Venice International Music and Dance Festival, combines all the different aspects involved in the art of flamenco: dance, singing and toque (flamenco guitar).
The choreography, in which the dancer María Guardia Gómez, 'Mariquilla', also took part, explores the sources of flamenco art and music and to highlight these roots Aguilar included musicians from the Arab, gypsy, Persian and Indian cultures.
The first version of this production featured the work of the dancer Manuela Aguilar, at that time the wife of Rafael Aguilar, in the creation of the character of 'La Petenera'; as well as the professional debut of another outstanding dancer, Eva Yerbabuena. In a later tour of Spain, Italy and France (1987) by the company, the singing was performed, among other figures, by the great Carmen Linares.
