The last staging by the legendary ballerina and choreographer Mariemma for the Spanish National Ballet.
Mariemma was one of the most tenacious figures in Spanish dance who revitalised the traditional bolero school in the mid-20th century. This staging was the last commission she received from the Spanish National Ballet, led by María de Ávila, recreating the Goya-esque and traditional styles of the bolero school. It debuted at La Zarzuela Theatre in Madrid on 13th June 1984. Mariemma chose compositions by Antonio Soler and Luigi Boccherini to recreate the musical style from the 18th century with arrangements by the contemporary Antón García Abril.
In 2009, the Spanish National Ballet directed by José Antonio Ruiz chose this staging as part of the commemoration programme on the 30th anniversary of the foundation of the Ballet.
