Original title

Chacona

A simple jewel from the past. The choreographer and artistic director Victoria Eugenia created this elegant precise solo based on Spanish dance tradition.

The world première of this number took place at the Herodes Atticus Theatre in Athens. It was performed by the Spanish National Ballet. Specifically, the ballerina Maribel Gallardo, for whom Victoria Eugenio created this solo. One of the choreographer’s extraordinary skills is her capacity to go into the origins of Spanish dance. In this sense, ‘Chacona’ is a type of mixture of 18th-century dance with the bolero school which triumphed in the 19th century.

With music by José Nieto, Victoria Eugenia created a modest jewel which condensed her good taste and deep knowledge of the original foundational era of Spanish dance.
