Original title

Cementiri de Sinera

Crowning work by Salvador Espriu, one of the renovators of the Catalan language.

In this book the author creates the myth of "Sinera", a name taken from the town of Arenys de Mar, which melancholically recalls the environment in which he grew up, and the sweetest moments of his childhood, a paradise lost to which he can only return in his memory.

There were two main reasons for this book. Firstly, Espriu wanted to write in Catalan when many authors in Catalonia started to write in Spanish, because they were only able to achieve recognition in that language. Secondly, he decided to write poetry because it was easier for this genre to slip through the Francoist censorship.
