Hernando del Castillo compiled one of the most complete collections of chansonnier poetry in the 15th century.

A collection of chansonnier poetry, compiled by Hernando del Castillo, published for the first time in 1511. It is one of the most important collections in this genre, because of its quantity, containing 964 pieces by 128 authors, and its quality. These songs mainly belong to the reign of the Catholic Monarchs, although some pieces belong to the reigns of John II and Henry IV of Castile.
One of the main innovations by the author, in this case as a compiler, is the will to classify the compositions into themes. This is why they are divided into fields: devotional work; didactic, moral and love works; glossed songs, romances and comic works, amongst other categories. For all this it became the most read songbook in the Golden Age, and was reedited and extended many times afterwards.
