Original title

Bolero

The dancer and choreographer Rafael Aguilar adapted the ballet 'Bolero' by the French composer Maurice Ravel for his own company.

This choreography by the Ballet Teatro Español company of Rafael Aguilar was first performed in the Italian Festival of La Versiliana in 1987. Aguilar added colour and likeness to his version and imbued it with sensuality. The myth of Narcissus and the symbolism of prohibited tragic love underlie the show at all times, faithful to the original score.
Rafael Aguilar used this staging again in 1995 where the only change was that there were two principal dancers, leading him to create an elegant pas de deux at the end. The day after its revival in Madrid, Rafael Aguilar died.
