'Ardalén' is a fascinating graphic narrative dealing with remembrance and memory, and teeming with unforgettable characters. With this work Miguelanxo Prado reveals his technical mastery in the use of colour.
The author took three years to complete 'Ardalén', his longest and most ambitious work so far, which has earned him the National Comic Award. It revolves around Sabela, who attempts to rebuild a part of her story through the memories of Fidel. This underlying plot serves as a backdrop for a series of parallel and intersecting storylines featuring other characters. Human beings who help, love and hurt each other cling to their past to avoid disaster.
Personal memory, and the essence of existence, is at the heart of the narrative of 'Ardalén', which mixes –in a highly poetic way– reality with dreams, and memory with forgetting. Because we are also what others remember us as.
