Original title

Amadís de Gaula

Reinterpretation of one of the greatest exponents of chivalric novels by the writer Garci Rodríguez de Montalvo.

Published in 1508, this work is an adaptation and renovation of a chivalric novel with the same title, written in Portuguese in the 13th and 14th centuries, during the reign of Sancho IV, currently lost. This version by Garci Rodríguez de Montalvo, published with the name "Los cuatro libros del virtuoso caballero Amadís de Gaula", tells the chivalric and warrior adventures of the brave Amadís de Gaula. The writer, who worked on the adaptation for more than fifteen years, added a fourth book which substantially changed the end of the primitive book. He also wrote a sequel, equivalent to the fifth book, called "Las sergas de Esplandián" (1510), which tells the chivalric adventures of Amadís's son.
