Original title

Adiós a la bohemia

A splendid piece by the composer, conductor and violinist Pablo Sorozábal, on the small play with the same title by the writer Pío Baroja.

Premiered in the Calderón Theatre in Madrid on 21 November 1933, it is an ópera chica in one act, with a realistic and dramatic atmosphere, and is one of the greatest exponents of Spanish-style "verism".

It is an important opera in the Spanish genre, to which the magnificent text by Pío Baroja undoubtedly contributed (he adapted his own book to the libretto), as well as the music by the maestro Sorozábal, with a marked dramatic expression and perfect "descriptivism".

Nevertheless, and despite its high aesthetic quality, this chamber opera was not as successful with the audience as it should have been and the author had to reconsider aesthetic budgets, which he was, nevertheless, sure about.
