The centre's exhibit area includes both the interior of the museum and the exterior, where the breakwaters are.
The Bilbao Maritime Museum's collection includes objects relating to the maritime activities of the Estuary and Port of Bilbao, as well as the culture of the sea in general. Some of the most interesting items are boats belonging to Bilbao shipping companies, models of vessels built in the city's most emblematic shipyards, like the Nervión and the Euskalduna, the watercolour paintings of Esteban Bermejo and the lifeline system of marine rescue, which was donated by the Arriluze Red Cross Sea Rescue Station.
This is a replica of the original, and was built by the Ría de Bilbao Maritime Museum based on a 17th-century oil painting by Francisco Bustrín.
