The Museum of Nature and Man (MNH) is located in the Old Civil Hospital, an emblematic building in the island's capital and a fine example of the islands' typical neoclassical architecture. The project for its refurbishment succeeded in achieving a special equilibrium between the areas dedicated to exhibitions, and those designed for cultural and recreational uses (documentation centre and library, multifunction rooms, restaurant, shop, courtyards and gardens, etc.). The museum offers the chance to learn more about the natural riches of the Canary Islands, and also to discover the most important collection existing on the culture of the "guanches", a native people who inhabited the island of Tenerife before the arrival of the first European settlers.
