This is the first home of the Russian State Museum in western Europe, and its collection comprises a selection of Russian artworks which is renewed every year.

The museum offers a window onto the culture of Russia through important pieces from the Russian State Museum in Saint Petersburg. This institution has over 400,000 works that encompass every single period, trend and genre in Russian art. The site in Malaga also hosts temporary exhibitions, and features an auditorium, several screening and reading rooms, and organises activities such as film series and children's workshops.

It is housed in one of the most representative regionalist-style buildings in the city, the Tabacalera building.
