Light, nature, music and architecture. This stylised and elegant monumental complex overlooking the Atlantic Ocean is an emblematic example of 21st-century Spanish architecture.
The building itself, with its two large halls for musical performances (the main or symphony hall and the chamber hall), occupies an area of over 6,000 m2. But the exterior and surrounding space also form part of the work, and comprise over 16,000 km2 open to the Atlantic Ocean by means of several squares and terraces.
The whole complex is presided by its most significant element: the projecting wing which crowns the symphony hall, a curved structure which is suspended at a height of about 50 m. One of its key features, as with the rest of the complex, is the white of the concrete and the 'trencadís' mosaic used in the construction, one of the hallmarks of the Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava.
