It is entered through the Sant Antoni neo-classical gateway, which was opened in the walls in the 18th century. It is located in the old town, commonly known as the Castell de Pilat. It was part of the structure of the Tarraco provincial forum, built in the 1st century AD. It became a royal castle in the Middle Ages, and currently houses the Tarragona National Archaeological Museum.
