
Triumphal arch.
It belongs to the Tarragona archaeological site, which is UNESCO World Heritage.
It is a triumphal arch. It commemorates military or political exploits. It is located in the ancient Via Augusta, which led to Rome. It only has one opening, which is 12.3 m. high. From the podium rise four embedded, fluted pilasters crowned with Corinthian capitals, holding up the entablature inscribed with the name of the builder. It was built on the orders of Lucius Licinius Sura, one of Trajan’s generals.
