Architecture as a container for culture. The public library in Seville, the work of the Cruz and Ortiz architects' studio, constitutes a splendid receptacle for books.

Cruz and Ortiz conceived a project which made the most of the central space of the building, envisaged as a kind of courtyard, in order to give the building maximum functionality. A large building surrounds this central courtyard, and has a total of six façades. Two of its sides open onto the María Luisa park and the Guadalquivir river.
The construction features exposed brick with structural elements in black metal, and a contrast between the ground floor –which is almost completely open to the exterior–, and the first floor –considerably higher and with a denser appearance, which is the area with bare brick. The roof is made of zinc and has a particularly steep pitch.
