Historic site
Segovia, Castile-Leon

The historic centre of Segovia and its colossal Roman aqueduct have been declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. The latter is an amazing civil engineering work erected in the 1st century.

The aqueduct looks imposing from the popular Plaza del Azoguejo. Its 166 arches built with granite stones are lodged together thanks to a well-studied system of support and weight. However, Segovia has many other monuments: palaces, convents, churches and towers can be found along streets and squares such as Calle Real, Plaza Mayor, Calle Cervantes or the Jewish Quarter. Some of the buildings that stand out, amongst others, are the cathedral, known as the "lady of all cathedrals" because of its height and elegant layout; the Alcázar fortress, which looks like something out of a fairy tale and affords a spectacular panoramic view of the city from the tower; and Casa de los Picos house, with its distinctive façade.
