The style of the church reflects the transition from Romanesque to Gothic. Of particular note is the double southern doorway, with sculptures of the Pantocrator, Tetramorph and the Apostles. Also of interest is the chapel of Saint James, from the early 14th century, where the Infante Philip and his wife Leonor Ruíz de Castro are buried. The church houses the Virgen Blanca, to whom Alfonso X the Wise wrote songs in the “Cantigas”. It was one of the most important religious centres on Saint James’s Way.
