The church was conceived as a royal chapel, built upon an oratory that belonged to Philip IV. It was designed by the architects Isidro González Velázquez and Santiago Bonavía in the 18th century. This space is arranged in a system of arcades, with an interesting play on curves and bends. It has a circular floor plan and is crowned by a remarkable dome. It has a marked Italian influence.
