A convent-hospital for pilgrims.
It is a Parador hotel today. It also serves as a venue for some of the city's social events.
Having been used as a hospital to attend to pilgrims on the Way of Saint James, explains to some extent why some of the statues on the Plateresque-style façade of San Marcos convent, along with some medallions, depict Jacobean themes. A large part of these statues honour the universal monarchy of Charles I. The convent church has a Latin cross ground plan. Designed by Juan de Badajoz el Mozo, the sacristy boasts 3 stellar vaults. Moreover, he is the author of the medallions that decorate the Renaissance and Baroque cloister, also home to the floral decoration of Juan de Juni.
