Together with the site in Baeza, the Renaissance monumental site of Úbeda has been awarded the World Heritage designation by the UNESCO. Both these towns offer unique examples of the canons of the Spanish Renaissance of the 16th and 17th centuries.
Churches, palaces and noble homes make the streets of Úbeda authentic works of art. Plaza de Vázquez de Molina square is the focus of the most important Renaissance buildings, including the chapel of El Salvador, the church of Santa María de los Reales Alcázares, Las Cadenas Palace and Marqués de Mancera Palace. Their Plateresque doorways, arched galleries and decorative details are a genuine marvel. There are numerous other architectural surprises throughout the town, including the hospital of Santiago, the church of San Pablo, the monastery of Santa Clara, the Vela de los Cobo Palace, Casa de las Torres House, the Oratory of San Juan de la Cruz and the hospital of Honrados Viejos del Salvador .
