Ibiza

Ibiza has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in recognition of the biodiversity of its marine and coastal ecosystems, and preservation of many of the remains from its long history.

The main feature of its marine ecosystem are the thick posidonia beds. These provide shelter and food for a large variety of marine species that make up most of the outstanding biodiversity in Ibiza.

The island also preserves important historical remains. The main example it the capital, Eivissa, which contains the Punic necropolis of Puig des Molins, and the high town, Dalt Vila, both very fine examples of Renaissance military architecture. Another remarkable place is the Phoenician settlement of Sa Caleta, in the south of the island.
