Ampurias is the most important Greek archaeological site to be found in Spain.Its origin stems from the settlement of Greek colonisers during the 5th century B. C. The town was reformed by the Romans, and in the 1st century B.C. Cesar founded another town of a square layout, populated by army veterans, with remains of mosaic and wall painting.Excavation has revealed important pieces most noteworthy being Greek bronze, ceramic and sculpture.
