One of the finest examples of Spanish civil Romanesque art
Pazo de Xelmírez was constructed in the 12th and 13th centuries, following the revolt that left the old Episcopal palace in ruins. It is considered one of the most outstanding examples of civil Romanesque architecture in Spain. Its austere façade contrasts with the exuberance of the Cathedral cloister. The palace rooms are majestic. Of particular note are the ogive vaulted ceilings supported by beams covering the expansive refectory.
