Historic site
Santiago de Compostela
A Coruña, Galicia

Out of all the monuments that can be seen in this historic centre, which has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, special mention should be made of one especially: the cathedral, the ultimate destination on the Way of Saint James.

The cathedral is, without doubt, an exceptional site: every façade, every door, every capital, every chapel inside is a work of art. It is surrounded by several squares (Quintana, Platerías, Obradoiro and Inmaculada) where there are also other important buildings, for example, Gelmírez Palace, San Jerónimo College, the Monastery of San Martín Pinario, the Rajoy Palace and the Hostal de los Reyes Católicos hotel, currently a Parador hotel. From the cathedral you can get to two of the main streets in the historic centre, Rúa do Franco and Rúa do Villar, full of craft shops and typical restaurants. It is also worth visiting the Fonseca College, the Geography and History Faculty, the Convent of San Agustín and the Convent of Santo Domingo de Bonaval, which houses the Museum of the Galician People.
