The castle stands at the highest part of Trujillo. It was built in the 13th century on the site of an old Arab fortress dating from the 9th or 10th centuries. It conserves the square towers typical of Islamic military architecture. It is built of masonry and mortar, and has two parts: the bailey and the enclosure.
