The last resting place of El Cid Campeador

This monastery houses the pantheon which held the remains of El Cid and Doña Jimena.

It was founded by the Benedictine friars and its church is home to the Renaissance-style pantheon where El Cid and his wife Doña Jimena were buried, until their remains were later moved to the capital. Only a few archaeological remnants survive from that time, including a Romanesque tower and some parts of the cloister, as the building was completely renovated in the 15th century in the Gothic style which is predominant today. The church, with three naves, is the work of Pedro del Burgo and dates from that time. It has a choirstall in the Gothic-Mudejar style. The 13th-century chapter room houses the museum.
