This is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, together with another six works by Antoni Gaudí.
This building was the architect Gaudí’s first important work. Built between 1883 and 1888, the Manuel Vicens i Montaner House was designed as a summer residence for a wealthy family. Gaudí was in the first stage of his career, which featured structures where straight lines were preferred to curves.
The style belongs to a phase that was influenced by Orientalism and the taste for art from the Middle East, mainly Arab, Persian and Byzantine. A good example of this is the façade profusely decorated with tiles.
