A functional, modern and aesthetically pleasing building, perfectly suited to its function of displaying and showcasing in its rooms all the archaeological material in the museum's collection.
It shares an entrance courtyard with the Fournier Playing Cards Museum. The ground floor, on the lower level, is the site of the library and workshops. The entrance level has a function room and a temporary exhibition room. The upper levels house the permanent exhibitions. The floors are connected by means of a main stairway which forms part of the bronze façade of the building.
Its appearance is reminiscent of a chest or a box. In its interior, the colours of the floors and ceilings are very dark, almost black. The rooms are traversed by various prisms of white glass which collect the daytime light from the roof and which also serve as supports for the information panels on the exhibitions.
