Apr 2, 2023 to Apr 9, 2023To the sound of trumpets and coinciding with the dawn of spring, Logroño dresses up to celebrate Easter - one of the most traditional festivals in the capital of the Rioja region.
Many processions are held, representing the passion and death of Christ, such as the famous “La Borriquilla” procession, celebrated on Palm Sunday. During what is known by the locals as the Semana Mayor (Holy Week), twelve cofradías (church clubs) show off their cultural heritage in the form of “pasos” (floats with religious scenes and sculptures) through the city streets. The festival reaches its high point on the following Sunday when there is a procession of the Risen Christ, crossing the stone bridge over the River Ebro and coming to an end in the town centre.
