Exhibition: Art and Myth. The Gods of the Prado

Vulcan and Fire. Peter Paul Rubens. Oil on canvas, 17th century // The Burning of Troy. Francisco Collantes. Oil on canvas, 17th century. © Museo Nacional del Prado

An introduction to Classical mythology and its representation through the Prado Museum’s collection, with works by artists such as Rubens, Ribera and Zurbarán.

The exhibition juxtaposes different depictions of gods and scenes from mythology in paintings, sculptures and objects ranging from the 1st century BCE to the late 18th century. It clearly shows the geographic, chronological, and iconographic diversity of the holdings of the Prado Museum. The exhibition brings together a total of 50 works by important artists, and it is set to travel around museums in different parts of Spain.
