An exhibition that synthetically runs through the history of Spanish art, displaying works by Picasso alongside paintings by great masters and valuable archaeological items.

“The south of Picasso. Andalusian references” focuses on the effect that Iberian Mediterranean culture had on Picasso’s work. It provides a dialogue between a selection of pieces from Picasso’s different creative periods and several pieces taken from the Spanish historical and artistic heritage, a rich legacy from the great expert, Picasso.

A total of 204 works are on display. Alongside paintings, sculptures, sketches, and graphic works by the Malaga-born artist, canvasses, engravings and polychromatic sculptures by masters such as Juan Sánchez Cotán, Zurbarán, Velázquez, Alonso Cano, Murillo and Juan van der Hamen are also on display. Not to mention a significant collection of archaeological items from the Greco-Roman era and from Iberian and Phoenician cultures. The result is a synthetic tour through the history of Spanish art using works by Picasso.
