Juan Gris, Seated woman, 1917 (detail) Carmen Thyssen Bornemisza Collection, on loan to the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum © Museo Carmen Thyssen

A selection of paintings, sculptures, drawings, and documents from the second phase of Cubism, in which a series of artists, including Juan Gris and María Blanchard, take the reins from Picasso and Braque, the creators of the movement.

The exhibition is divided into three sections. The first shows outstanding examples of the paintings of Juan Gris and María Blanchard. The second part focuses on the context of their work, and that of other contemporary masters of 20th century art. Finally, the exhibition presents a series of artists who approached modern art through Cubism, such as Dalí, Moreno Villa, Benjamín Palencia, Joaquín Peinado, Ángeles Ortiz, and Pancho Cossío.
