Family workshops at the National Library

The National Library offers workshops for families with children aged 6 to 12

All the activities are designed to connect families with literature in a fun way. They are completely free of charge but must be signed up for in advance.

“The Library of Babel” explores the idea of the story of the same name, inviting participants to use murals and models to design their perfect futuristic library. It will be held on 25 and 26 November and 2 December from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

“Gothic and Romantic” recreates the Romantic world of José Zorrilla and the Gothic of Don Juan Tenorio, offering a space for discussion where people can share their experiences, impressions, and knowledge of the 19th century. It will be held on 3 December from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

“Secrets of the National Library” proposes a scavenger hunt in which groups search the museum while they solve a set of riddles. It will be held on 6, 7, and 27 December, from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm, and there will be an extra afternoon session on 7 December, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

“Francisco Holanda and the Creation of the World” is inspired by the visual chronicles of this artist, inviting participants to create their own collage about the creation of the world, using different materials like newspaper, powdered marble, cotton and string. It will be held on 8, 28, and 29 December from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

“Very Romantic Romantics” begins with a guided tour of the commemorative exhibition “Zorrilla, the people’s poet”, followed by a workshop discussing other aspects of Romanticism, such as art, fashion, music and dance. Finally, participants will use figurines to create different designs reflecting Romantic era fashions. It will be held on 4 November, from 5 pm to 7 pm, and 9, 16, 23, and 30 December, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
