Madrid’s Thyssen Museum provides an opportunity to enjoy a retrospective devoted to the surrealist painter René Magritte (1898-1967), the first to be held in Madrid since the one organised by the Fundación Juan March in 1989.

The Magritte Machine features around 90 works by the Belgian surrealist painter, and the title of the exhibition hints at the repetitive, combinatorial element present in the artist’s work.

The exhibition is divided into the following sections: The Magician’s Powers (self-portraits), Words in Painting, Figure and Background, Painting and Window, Face and Mask, Mimicry and Megalomania. As well as the 90 paintings, a selection of photos and films are on display in the exhibition.
