The Spanish National Library introduces its collection of pilgrimage books in a re-assessment of the genre

Over the 16th and 17th centuries, around thirty Spanish pilgrims wrote books describing their journeys. Almost all were printed, most were even reissued, and some, such as the works of Antonio de Aranda, Francisco Guerrero, and Antonio del Castillo, had a notable impact on the public, competing with books of chivalry and pastorals. The exhibition introduces this genre of first-person travel writing, which helps us understand the historic, economic, moral, and religious context of Spain’s Golden Age.
