Exhibition: Nicholas Nixon

The Brown Sisters, 1975. Nicholas Nixon © Colecciones Fundación Mapfre FM000341

More than 200 images in a comprehensive retrospective of this outstanding contemporary photographer and portrait specialist. The elderly, the sick, couples and families are the main themes running through his work.

The Nicholas Nixon photographs in the exhibition were taken from 1974 to 2017. From 1970s New York and Boston to the well-known series “The Brown Sisters”, a reflection on the passage of time which marks his entire career. His work suggests an eternal tension between the content and the emotions in his images.

Nixon portrays everyday reality at an unhurried pace and with great precision through series, careful composition, and a large-format camera.
