The “Empower Parents” programme

Workshops in the "Empower Parents" programme run by the ICO Foundation and the Hablarenarte platform © Fundación ICO

“Empower Parents” is an initiative for families with children aged 5 to 12 with ASD (autism spectrum disorder), intended to make museums more open, accessible and inclusive for autistic children.

The “Empower Parents” project is working to develop an appropriate methodology and tools to facilitate access to museums and cultural spaces for people with ASD, so they can normalise this type of cultural visits in their leisure habits. It seeks to reinforce the leadership and central role of the parents of autistic children, providing them with appropriate materials and resources.

This edition of the programme, with 10 participating families, takes place at the ICO Museum. The sessions are free of charge and held on Saturday mornings. They visit the museum with other families, take part in a creativity workshop with the children, and help create a network of work on museums and autism. “Empower Parents” is a project promoted by the ICO Foundation and the Hablarenarte platform, with the collaboration of the Confederación Autismo España.
