This season, the Teatro Real theatre in Madrid is offering the chance to enjoy some of the great operas. It is also offering other artistic and musical productions, as well as a series of activities directed at children and young people.

The 2019-2020 season brings 12 operas in a programme combining well-known works with new projects and major cultural events.

The season begins with Giuseppe Verdi’s “Don Carlo”, and includes such well-known titles as “L'elisir d'amore”, “The Magic Flute”, "La Traviata" and "The Valkyrie", continuing Wagner’s Ring cycle conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado. Five operas will be making their Teatro Real debut: "Il pirata", by Bellini; "Lear", by Reimann; "Iris", by Mascagni; "The Passenger", by Weinberg, in its first performance in Spain; and the notable recovery and restoration of heritage which is  "Achille in Sciro", by Corselli. The schedule will be completed with concert versions of operas, recitals, classical concerts, and dance performances. Meanwhile, the educational project for children and young people, “El Real Junior”, will present musical workshops and various shows designed for different age groups.

Activities organised alongside the opera programme include activities such as exhibitions, colloquia and conferences which explore the connections with other artistic disciplines such as literature, cinema, photography... Not to mention the celebration of a new edition of the Universal Music Festival and the Opera Week at the Teatro Real.
