Madrid’s Teatro Real celebrates a double anniversary in its 2017-2018 season: 20 years since its reopening on 11 October, and 200 years since it was founded, on 23 April 2018.

As always, the schedule of the Teatro Real offers the opportunity to enjoy spectacular opera productions. It also presents other artistic and musical events, and a series of activities for children and young people. The 2017-2018 season programme presents 13 operas, including a world première and five co-productions with other important European opera houses.

The season opens with Mozart’s “Lucio Silla” and includes repertory favourites such as “Aida”, “Carmen”, “Lucia di Lammermoor”, and “La Bohème”. There is also keen anticipation of the magnum opus “Die Soldaten”, “El Pintor” (The Painter), “Gloriana”, “Street Scene”, and “Dead Man Walking”. The schedule will be completed with concert versions of operas, recitals, classical concerts, and dance performances. Meanwhile, the educational project for children and young people, “El Real Junior”, will present musical workshops and various shows designed for different age groups.

Activities organised alongside the schedule of operas include exhibitions, round tables, and lectures exploring the connections with other artistic disciplines, such as literature, film, photography, and so on. And of course, the Teatro Real will also host the fourth Universal Music Festival, and Opera Week.
