The Teatro de la Zarzuela, directed by Daniel Blanco for the seventh year, is offering an exciting programme for this new season, featuring opera, musical theatre, dance, concerts, conferences and educational projects.

The season will feature 148 events, including great works of musical theatre. This season also continues the Zarza project for new performers, featuring the "zarzuela" light opera Yo te querré (I will love you) performed by a group of young singers and actors, accompanied by a chamber orchestra.

The season opens with a concert version of “La Celestina”, one of Spain's great tragicomedies. "Pan y toros" (Bread and bulls) is returning to the Teatro de la Zarzuela after 21 years. "Policías y ladrones" (Police and thieves) will be performed, one of the latest commissions by the Teatro de la Zarzuela, and we will be able to enjoy "La Dolores" by Tomás Bretón, one of the iconic works of Spanish lyric opera. We are rediscovering an 18th century work by one of the most important composers of the time, José de Nebra, “La violación de Lucrecia” (The rape of Lucrecia), and will premiere "Trato de favor" (Favourable treatment), a libretto by Boris Izaguirre with music by Lucas Vidal. Our lyric opera season will close with a revival of "Luisa Fernanda" by Federico Moreno Torroba, a much loved public favourite, crammed with the most famous ballads of our zarzuela tradition.

The stars of this season include Marta Sánchez, who will perform her new show A solas con Marta 2022 (Alone with Marta 2022), El niño de Elche, Rozalén, the tenor Ángel Ruiz, Pasión Vega and two of the leading voices in the international opera world, Ainhoa Arteta and Ramón Vargas.
